Course Benefits

Travel Ready - What's it for?

This package has been designed and developed for people seeking training and guidance on how to stay safe, secure and healthy when travelling. Given the current global situation, this need for reassurance applies to anyone, whether you are a business person exploring new markets, a PhD student on a research trip to a challenging environment or a free spirit (of any age) seeking new experiences. It is a package designed to reassure rather than dampen enthusiasm for travel, and will undoubtedly improve the levels of confidence for each individual traveller.

Travel Ready - How is it presented?

The course has been designed to suit most types of learners, especially from a Visual, Audio and Kinaesthetic perspective, and while much of the training material is delivered using the written word, the package contains many reinforcement exercises which will require the learner to both "think" and "act". There are also regular video clips (that utilise audio voice over and sub-titles where appropriate) that are used to emphasise and reinforce specific points of learning. The learner will also discover regular opportunities to be "sign-posted" out of the main package to other websites and resources that provide information designed to deepen their knowledge of the subject.

Travel Ready - When can I use it?

Once the course has been completed the learner will find that many of the key points of learning can be utilised immediately. The Safety and Security element, for instance, has immediate application within any urban environment (irrespective of location), especially when considering Situation Awareness and reaction to street theft and pickpockets. The Environmental, Medical and Health training can also be considered immediately beneficial, and will provide extremely useful information and guidance across a range of potential scenarios, ranging from minor scrapes through to treatment of cold and heat related injuries. The Cultural, Social and Political element will allow potential travellers to begin the research for their trip straight away, and will certainly allow for greater clarity of thought process when considering the type of location being visited.

This training package has been designed using an e Learning digital platform, and learners can progress though the course at their own pace. The course incorporates the full range of VAK learning styles (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic), and learners will find that the majority of course material will be sympathetic to their needs.

Learning material is presented in such a way as to be visually stimulating, with descriptive images, video and audio utilised to provide contextualisation and explanation (i.e. relative to the Visual and Auditory style of learning). Most of the sections and topics contain some form of test exercise to help students to confirm and/or reinforce their knowledge, and hyperlinked signposts (leading to source documents or websites) are embedded at regular intervals to provide opportunities for learners to gain a deeper understanding of the subject, and to page-mark for future reading and study (i.e. relative to the Kinasthetic learning style).

Yes, there is an online assessment at the end of the course, and learners need to pass this exam in order to gain their Certificate. There are also confirmatory/reinforcement tests at the end of each topic or section; learners are not required to pass these tests in order to progress through the course, though they are advised to do so in order to gain the maximum benefit.

The online assessment found at the end of the course uses objective style questions, though a context is generally given for each situation. However, subjective "quiz" type questions are utilised throughout the course to allow learners to engage more closely with the material, assist development and provide opportunities to check and confirm learning.
