About LEC 1

The Low Energy Company (LEC) 1 training course is the first stepping stone in embedding energy efficiency training within organisational practices and establishing it as a national standard across all industries.

The LEC training will help organisations to strengthen their commitment to strategically decrease energy consumption and ultimately energy cost. Training employees will contribute to increasing their productivity and have a positive impact on organisation's profitability.By completing the course employees will gain a useful and transferable skills that can be applied in workplace as well as in domestic environment.

The LEC 1 training focuses on raising employees awareness about their energy use. Upon completion of the course candidate will know:

  • What and how much energy is used in the workplace
  • How that energy use can be assessed
  • Their own role using energy more efficiently
  • Reducing unnecessary energy use in the workplace

Organisations training a significant proportion of their employees in LEC 1 course will be awarded LEC Bronze, Silver or Gold status.

Why to join this course?

The LEC training programme is the Energy Managers Association's initiative that equips individuals with the skills and knowledge required to reduce their personal energy consumption within the workplace and at home. There are four

  • LEC 1 - raising individuals awareness about energy use
  • LEC 2 - reducing individuals energy usage (coming spring 2017)
  • LEC 3 - energy management in practice (recognised energy manager status)
  • LEC 4 - managing an energy management team and energy usage in the workplace (recognised energy manager status) - under development

The EMA represents energy management professionals on an individual (ie: non-corporate) basis. EMA membership is split into three-levels: EMA Member, EMA Associate and EMA Affiliate. EMA Membership is open to all but only those who work or have worked in the field of energy and carbon management will be entitled to be approved as Members or Associates. Raising energy awareness is the first step and the easiest action to take in tackling increasing energy prices and concerns about the security of the energy supply. Knowledge gained by completing the course will assist learners in adjusting their behaviour and improving energy efficiency, reducing costs and lowering carbon emissions.

Organisations that trained their workforce in EMA Energy Awareness course may be entitled to obtain LEC Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditation. In order to obtain the LEC accreditation, an organisation is required to have the following percentages of their employees trained:

  • Bronze Accreditation - 30-49% of total workforce trained
  • Silver Accreditation - 50-79% of total workforce trained
  • Gold Accreditation - 80-100% of total workforce trained

This course requires only 40 minutes of time to complete.

Yes. There is an online test in a form of a multiple answer quiz questions.

Yes. Upon completion of the course your LEC 1 course certificate will be added to a Hub user profile. Companies that trained a required percentage of their workforce will be eligible for LEC Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation.

This course provides a certificate verified by the EMA which assures that the learner has completed the prescribed course materials and the related assessment(s).
